Why can't I control portal parameter forms?

  1. Okay this is more of a gripe than anything else. But it drives me crazy that when I use Portal to run an Oracle Report (RDF), I can't override how the parameter form is displayed.

What I mean is, I could of course put the paramform inside of the RDF but then it would be up to each RDF developer. WHich would lead to wildly inconsistent UI for the parameters. So I'd rather use the Portal's parameter forms that you can create for each RDF.

But the problem is the only control you have over the display of the parameter forms is to insert an LOV (list of values) into the parameter field. You can't hook into the parameter form to add, for example, a Javascript calendar widget. So that users could easily pick a date to input into a parameter field.

It's unbelievable to me that a Portal would not give you that ability to hook into the parameter form. Especially since the HTML Templates capability lets you have almost full control over the HTML for other parts of Portal (pages and item html).
